If the selling party does not picture the bottom of the lighter, where the serial number is, its Probably fake. If it looks the the numbers are lined up perfectly, if they are engraved, its fake. ST Dupont stamps their lighters with numbers not aligned in a straight line, some numbers looking higher or lower then others.

Hi, zeteibao: Did you ever hear from Dupont about the serial number of that Fidelio FP?
There is one for sale on eBay even as I write (#22), and the seller even sent me personally a picture of the serial number on the pen's clip. The photograph is not good enough for me to decipher what that number is, but I do notice that it's engraved not at the top of the clip but at the bottom! Should I suspect this pen is a fake? The asking price seems to be a bit low; it's USD$149. Don, 'Sir Nibs'. Hi, zeteibao: Did you ever hear from Dupont about the serial number of that Fidelio FP?
